The US’s 250th

Overheard in the Conservatory:

It should be the US’s 250th.  Not “America’s 250th” because the entire hemisphere called America is not having a birthday to celebrate independence from the Crown, nor are the three Americas.  It’s just the United States of North America that is celebrating 250 years of independence from the Crown.

But as is usually the case in the US, many things have the wrong name. And since the US never had the intelligence to choose a name for their country like all other countries did, this is what can happen when the US steals the name “America.”

Also the US dictator who is currently the white house resident is using the event to make it all about himself, as expected. The guy needs constant attention.

As for “America’s 250th,” I read on National Public Radio’s site that half of the people in the US have no idea what this “America’s 250th” is about, and I had wondered if that were the case.

Each year I wonder:  Do most people even know what the 4th of July commemorates?  I think not. To most people, it’s just a day off in the early part of July.   Most would have no idea this holiday means 250 years of independence from the British Crown.

The US dictator is currently having the “Great American State Fair” in the District of Columbia, which is not a state. But I wouldn’t expect that to ever occur to the dummy.

How can one have a “State Fair” on land that is not a state?  Doh.
