Right on, Ringo. Good for you! I relate to Ringo completely.
Society’s ugly ageism. I’m so sick of people who brainwash themselves with “I’m old” regardless of one’s chronological age.
Ringo and I are the opposite of the ageist people in society. He’s in his 80s but says that in his head he’s 24. In another interview he said he as 27. He is not of an “old” mindset unlike many, if not most, people in society.
Regardless, Ringo is in his 20s in his head. He said he’s in very good health, which he attributes to being a vegetarian. Same with me.
There are those who are brainwashed with dressing “age appropriate.” And what conservative person or persons decides what is “age appropriate?” Who decides that?
Most “old” people dress the same — there’s a look for “old” — because that has been brainwashed into them. If they were asked to wear something else, they would say, “Oh, I’m too old to wear that.” And who says that? The morons who came up with the “age appropriate” nonsense?
One should wear what they want regardless of their age.
I used to go to a barber who was in the “senior” category but he wore Levis jeans. I’d never known of anyone in his age group who wore Levis jeans, so I was glad to see him refusing to cater to the “I’m now old” way of thinking. Only younger people wore jeans. But this barber rejected society’s ageism about what one should wear at a certain age.
I have a relative — I can’t stand her — who is heavily into ageism. She’s in her 60s, has a rotten personality because no man can stand to be with her and she is much older mentally because of her brainwashed ageism. She used to be rather “progressive” but she moved to a conservative area and lost herself and became conservative. She is frequently reminding people of “I’m old” and how old she is. In her early 60s, she’s already planning to live in a gated “senior” retirement community with a bunch of “old” sedentary people. Yet she has illusions about hiking, swimming, playing tennis, getting in a sauna and other things with these “old” people. Not too many “old” people do any of that stuff because, well, they claim they’re “too old.” Years ago, she mentally started emulating her 90 year old mother. My relative’s MD told her that she is now officially obese. My relative claims there is nothing she can do about that. Really? Maybe some exercise? No, that’s out of the question too because exercise requires some work/effort and she’s in denial which is where she’s spent most of her life. In denial. Her way of thinking has often been, “Don’t tell me, I don’t want to know. You’ll spoil my fun.”
Ringo tripped over some production wiring, and fell on the stage recently at a performance and got right up and continued on. The average 80 year old would not have done that. They would have broken a hip or ended up in some medical centre with major injuries. He seemed to be fine after falling and continued on. He jogged off the stage.
It is very good to see that Ringo Starr has rejected society’s brainwashed ageism.
