That was the original and authentic name.

“On June 26, 1977, the Gay Freedom Day Parade really became the huge spectacle that it has been ever since.”

Well, San Francisco’s “huge spectacle” lost its way years ago when they sold out to corporations and corporate sports teams. These days it’s really nothing more than a long corporate mobile commercial that lasts for hours (from Embarcadero to Civic Center), mostly attended by heterosexuals as a place to party and make out under an over-saturation of rainbow flags. That’s what I’ve heard about it. West Hollywood’s is more authentic and closer to the original. It looks more grass-roots.

So why did the corporatist basura who hijacked the Gay and Lesbian Rights Movement change the name from Gay Freedom Day and Festival to this “Pride” nonsense?  Well, I suspect it was because just the word “Freedom” was too radical for the corporatist trash who ultimately killed the Movement with their designated ultimate goal of gay marriage, and things have been dead ever since. The corporatists never learned that “the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” They live under delusions that any “victory” is permanent. Historically, “victories” are often quite temporary.

So some corporate nuts came up with “pride” which has nothing to do with freedom from discrimination, prejudice and persecution.  “Pride” is the wrong word to thinking people.

Who is “proud” or has “pride” in their sexuality?  Crazy.  I’ve never heard a straight person say, “I’m proud to be straight; I have pride in being straight.” The same for bi guys. I’ve never had anyone tell me “I’m proud to be gay/bi/str8.” Is one also proud of and has pride in their skin colour or hair colour or eye colour, meaning the way they were born?  We don’t have any months for those “prides.”

And in keeping with that thinking, why is there a need for a “pride” for the sexuality that one was born with? By being “proud of” one’s sexuality — something doesn’t set right with me about that; think about it — it implies that there is something wrong with one’s sexuality, so to counter that, people are saying they are proud of their sexuality. In other words, it’s as if the person is saying, “Even though many people say it’s wrong and don’t agree with me, I’m going to say I’m proud to be gay.” Would they be “proud” to be gay otherwise? It’s nothing to be proud of anymore than any other sexuality. But I suspect most people have never thought of any of this; they have just blindly gotten in lockstep with the corporatist Gay Agenda.

The event should be called what it was originally. Fuck the corporatists.  Change it back to Gay Freedom Day and Festival.  That will get the right-wing going. 

Has no one considered that “Pride” is a way of sanitising gay. In San Francisco, the event is called “San Francisco Pride” (note the word gay is absent; “Pride” sanitises gay) which makes it sound like an event for San Francisco residents to have pride in their City. And the Gay Agenda and its cultists keep sanitising gay with all those fucking letters. The official train of letters is currently: LGBTQQICAPF2K+. Insanity. Do the corporatist trash intend to go through the entire alphabet 2-3 times?

The corporatists have also engaged in major revisionist history about the Movement. It was originally GLB. Gay, lesbian and bisexual were all that was needed. G was first because gay guys and drag queens (gay guys) led the movement by the thousands, not lesbians. But some busy-body changed it to put lesbians first. Why? Was that the sexist “ladies go first” mentality that changed it? So the corporatists have gone back into archival history somehow to give the impression that the first acronym was always called “LGBT” which is a lie. It really should be called GLB.

Trans should be their own thing because feeling one was born the wrong gender and wanting to change one’s gender has nothing to do with same-gender attraction. Gay is about same-gender attraction, not about one’s gender. And since some trans end up living hetero lives with kids, they already had a category. It’s called straight.

But I live under no illusions, delusions or dreams that anything that the corporatist trash have done to ruin things is about to change back since they seem to think they know it all and know what’s best for queers, of their income bracket or higher of course.
