It’s District of Columbia, not “Washington DC”

But I don’t expect the sheeple to grasp this because I don’t think they know what the District of Columbia is or where it is. They think it’s up there some place in Canada. No sheeple, that’s British Columbia.

They hear “Washington DC” but I don’t think most people know what the DC part stands for. They just know that it goes on the end of Washington when not referring to The State of Washington.

There would be no need for anyone to say “the State of Washington” if everyone referred to the Federal District as the District of Columbia, rather than “Washington DC”

When I lived in the District — which is how the locals refer to DC or the District — I don’t remember anyone every saying “Washington DC” because they knew not to. They knew that was redundant; because there is no Washington in DC. They mean the same thing; they’re synonymous. As a District resident told me: Saying Washington DC is like saying San Francisco, San Francisco. Exactly.

But with the US education system being what it is and people’s lack of education on geography — not being able to find their own state on a map — I live under no illusions that what I’m writing here will change anything.

But I know this topic is still important to many District residents — as it was when I lived in the District — because during one of the Black Lives Matter protests I saw a guy wearing a shirt he had made that read “The District,” which again, is how DC residents refer to their City or the District.
