Why is Whoopi Goldberg never prepared?

She’s never prepared when Univisión is the topic of her show, as it was recently. Or is she really that inept and dense? Every time she talks about the español language network Univisión, it doesn’t seem to click in her head that the network name is an español word because she tries to say it as if it were an English word (it’s not), but Whoopi doesn’t even do that correctly. If she were prepared for her show, she would have learned how to correctly say one word en español, and that word is Univisión, pronounced: uniβiˈsjon.

She was asking a Latina on her panel about the recent tr*mp interview on the #1 español language network, Univisión, and the fallout after that. I wrote about that here.

Now you would think — or expect — that a credible television talk show host moderator would be prepared before going on-air and know the correct pronunciation of the network that she’s about to talk about, no? If she wants any respect at all. But unfortunately that’s never the case with Whoopi Goldberg when talking about Univisión. This is not new for her. She seems to relish disrespecting español, which is what she does when she tries to make Univisión an English word. She doesn’t even try to pronounce the name of the network authentically en español. Does she disrespect other world languages? This woman is a piece of work with a large ego.

But even in English she pronounces it wrong. She says “You-nah-vision” Ugh. Well, Uni is not “You-nah.” It’s “You-knee.” (Although it’s not that either in español). You-nah” would be “Una.” And that’s not how Univisión is spelled. Whoopi says it incorrectly just like that ignorant, skin-encased sack of fecal matter tr*mp does. That scum. Has Whoopi never studied any other world language other than US English? Has she studied English or did she just somehow pick it up on her own?

And where did she train? Well, from my research she’s a high school drop out. I had no idea. She dropped out of Washington Irving High School in NYC. So maybe this partially explains it. She seems to lack the education that others have in order to know that world languages matter and there are many people who are language people and who are offended when their language(s) are disrespected by some high school drop out who thinks she’s on the “left,” not even trying to pronounce words from world languages correctly. It’s a wonder that she’s gotten as far as she has. In another place online, it says she has a PhD from New York University in Humanities. Not sure how one gets an earned PhD when one is a high school drop out. Do they ignore that part? She also supposedly has an Honorary Doctorate from Wilson College. Well that doesn’t mean much; honorary Doctorates are tacky or as one University professor once told me, “Honorary Doctorates are ugly.” But in another place online from United Press International, it says that the PhD in Humanities from Wilson College was the Honorary Doctorate. So was there an earned Doctorate at all from New York University?

Then the Latina (Ana) on the show who knows the correct pronunciation of Univisión chose to go along with ignorant Whoopi by saying Univisión wrong herself. Mind-boggling. Yes, Ana said it wrong too, even though she knows the correct pronunciation. Ana said all the other español language words she spoke correctly, but not Univisión. I’m not suggesting that Ana should have corrected Whoopi on camera and show Whoopi’s language ignorance to the audience and show that, once again, Whoopi was unprepared for the show about Univisión. I’m suggesting that Ana should have pronounced Univisión correctly on camera the way she does any other time and maybe Whoopi would get the idea — you think? — hear it enough and start saying it correctly herself. Univisión is not a difficult word to say correctly. So why did Ana feel the need to cover for Whoopi’s language ignorance? And Whoopi can’t find it in herself to learn *one* word in español and say it correctly? Damn, that’s pretty bad. But I guess that’s what one gets from some high school drop outs.

I know her show is all about gossip and so-called “entertainment,” but is it too much to ask that these people educate their audience? What’s wrong with that? When did education become a bad thing? I’m not sure how a high school drop out would answer that. Why say words incorrectly regardless of their language? I’m just using Univisión as an example. What purpose does that serve anyone to deliberately say words incorrectly? Teach your audience the correct pronunciation of some español language words. Because some of us who watched that clip were just rolling our eyes in disgust because of Whoopi’s continued willful-ignorance, and then to watch Ana going along with it. Incredible. Hearing a Latina fluent en español mispronouncing Univisión — just because Whoopi did — was insane.

My friend said when I told him about this: “From what I’ve heard, many people can’t stand Whoopi because her show is all about gossip. Even a high school drop out can gossip for an hour, 5 days a week. And she thinks she’s on the left?” Didn’t she support her messiah Obama? Is she not aware that he continued and even expanded on the right-wing Bush/Cheney agenda? That’s true. That’s how “left” Obama was. Then we saw images of Michelle and George holding hands (see below), hugging and sharing candies during state ceremonies. The Bush and Obama families are best of friends as you can see below:
