Gay guys and Drag Queens started the Gay Rights Movement

The (now-dead) Gay Rights Movement was led by gay guys and Drag Queens.

Back in those days, two riots at donut shops in San Francisco and in Los Ángeles started the Gay Rights Movement (pre-Stonewall).

Historically, most Drag Queens have been gay men dressing as women. I looked that up to confirm that it’s true. In contemporary times, Drag Queens are associated with gay men and what’s known as “gay culture.”

There were many Drag Queens in that day — that art form which is considered outdated now — and Drag Queens are not transgender as a whole. A few may be. But Drag Queens and trans should not be lumped together as some people do because they are two completely different things. Some people mistakenly refer to drag queens as trans, as if they are one-in-the-same. They are not. All the Drag Queens I’ve known have been gay guys and they had no interest in changing their gender. The Drag part was just something fun to do as part of theatre, an art form, and not a reflection of gay guys wanting to be women. In fact, they made fun of women. Just as the “Sisters of PI” made fun of Roman Catholic sisters/nuns. I suppose there were some Drag Queens who wanted to change their gender and did, but I didn’t know them.

So once again and to be clear, the now-dead Gay Rights Movement — that died after Gay Marriage became legal in the non-United States — was led by gay guys and Drag Queens.
