Public Radio promoting the Car Culture. WTF? (The People’s Studio)

They don’t seem clear on the concept.

Often when I listen to one of the two public radio stations in San Francisco (which has recently moved into new studios, yes, that public radio station on Market Street now known as “The People’s Studio), I hear nothing about public transit or listeners taking public transit.

Interestingly, because the school kids take MUNI when I’m on it — yes, they all pile on very respectfully too — and kids ride MUNI for free which is extremely nice of the City and County of San Francisco.  It’s also a way of promoting/instilling the idea of taking public transit in their young minds, so as future adults they are more likely to take public transit wherever they are.  Again, a concept that seems to be lost on the public media personnel.

So the impression the public media personnel give is that it’s all about their app that one can listen to “in the car.”  In the car?  I would expect them to say, “When you’re on MUNI or BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) you can listen to our app.”  But no, one doesn’t hear that.  It’s all about “the car.”

So what do these public media people have against public transit which causes them to not promote it, but rather promote the septic car culture?  I swear, some people only get half of the message, if that!  They get what they choose to get.

At least to me, “The People’s Studio” sounds more like public transit since it is the people who take public transit.

I had thought that public radio listeners — don’t these public radio people mostly describe themselves as “progressive?” — and they would be on San Francisco’s MUNI, the MUNI Metro and enjoy riding MUNI, as I do.  One can listen to any app you want on MUNI.

MUNI (which stands for Municipal) is San Francisco’s wonderful public transit system.  But that’s not the impression this station give. On this public radio station, it’s all about one’s car, and even donating one’s car to the station, presumably after one buys a new car.  One woman was saying that she had bought an electric car and gave her old car to the station.  This is car culture brainwashing.

Do these people feel that they are too good for or above riding public transit?  If not, why don’t they?  Get your ass out that car and the many problems with the car culture, and ride MUNI.

Do these public radio personnel not know that the car culture which they are promoting — and apparently part of — by even mentioning “your car” is part of the environmental/pollution problem that they claim to care about?  They broadcast programmes about the environment. Based on their car culture mindset, they must not listen to any of them, but nevertheless they do broadcast them.

This station is a member station of National Public Radio/NPR.

By the way, NPR used to be called the nickname “Nice Polite Republicans” by some NPR listeners.  Is that still the case?

San Francisco’s excellent public transit system is entirely electric, or in a few cases hybrid electric.  And the power for San Francisco’s electric buses comes free of charge from Hetch Hetchy dam.  I love our electric buses.  They’re so quiet, clean outside and in, and most of the public is very polite and nice, and respectful of others.  It is public transit.  One is not isolating oneself in a car and being part of the car culture.

Even though my guess is that most listeners claim to be “progressive” they are members of the Dead Democratic Party Cult at election time.  And I don’t consider the other war party — the Dead Democratic Party — to be “progressive.”

I can’t say that I’ve ever heard on there, “the next time you’re on public transit, you can listen to our app which you can download online.” No, instead it’s — as I said above — all about their app which one can listen to “in the car.”  The car?   Cars are part of the problem, public radio people.  How could you not know that?

Genuine progressives ride public transit.  I do every day.  Wouldn’t do anything else.  And I have a great deal of respect for the MUNI drivers.  They have a difficult job and most of them do that job exceptionally well.

Some people only get parts of a message.  Roll eyes.  I’m sure there are people like my dense neighbour who — I think — pretends to be a progressive whilst she eats dead animals and drives around in her car she’s trying to impress somebody with, but she’s a cultist of the Dead Democratic Party Cult.

And I think most Democrats, most progressives are like that unfortunately. They pick and choose what they will do, leaving out anything that will inconvenience them by having to change their own behaviour.

To the station’s credit, they have good music in the evenings with some of San Francisco’s highly-regarded and excellent DJs, such as Patrick King Most, J Boogie, Margarita Azúcar (I wish the announcer would learn to pronounce her name when he introduces her; it’s the second syllable that gets the accent…it’s español….Azúcar means sugar…he accents the third syllable).  Then there’s Lady Ryan, Marcus Rosario and Dore Stein who also does Gaza Corner.  I feel like I’m leaving out someone although it’s not at all intentional.  All of their DJs seem like the nicest people.
