Rheinberger Cantus Missae in E# – The Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge

Repost

This is a Choral Eucharist (Anglican) sung on 2 February 2025 by the stellar Trinity College Chapel Choir at the University of Cambridge (UK).  They are my favourite collegiate Chapel Choir at Oxbridge.  The Chapel is part of the established Church of England.

Fortunately, this was more of a High Mass with the use of incense for this High Holy day:  The Feast of Candelmas.  The service leaflet is here.

The 30-voice Choir of Trinity College Chapel gave an incredible performance. I didn’t think they could improve last term, but this term — and with this particular group of choral scholars — they and their Director of Music Steven Grahl are incredible.  Flawless.

The organists are:

Augustine Cox, Senior Organ Scholar
Thomas Simpson, Junior Organ Scholar

This particular Mass setting is by Rheinberger, his Cantus Missae in E#.  It nicely showcased the Men of the Choir at times. It’s a beautiful piece, and they performed it superbly.
