I’ve not watched Univisión — pronounced: uniβiˈsjon — regularly for some time. I got turned off by one Latino or Latin music group after the other selling out to corporations. And I got tired of all the hype on the network and quick camera moves/flashing. That’s hard on the eyes.
As of this writing, the 2023 Latin Grammy’s are taking place shortly and the network moved the awards ceremony out of Miami (because of that right-wing governor of FL?) where they have been up until now. For 2023, they will be in España which will be an international telecast, the first time in the history of the Latin Recording Academy and its award show.
I knew that the network wasn’t hot on DJT, the former White House occupant and world bully, and his anti-immigrant positions. And I had heard about Ilia Calderón being one of the moderators in a recent debate between los Republicano candidates. She didn’t ass-eat any of them as one expects “moderators” to do at any other network. She asked questions that the candidates were not expecting. The right-wing was not pleased with her in the debate.
Recently, DJT met with Univisión’s executives and now the network is serving as a propaganda machine for him from my understanding, a complete change for them from their history. Update: Well, I think the world bully met with Televisa’s executives because it referred to the “parent company” and Televisa is the parent company for Uni.
As of this writing (15 noviembre 2023), their Seattle affiliate has abruptly dropped the network entirely and changed formats, so Seattle no longer has an Univisión station. Will any other markets do the same? San Francisco’s Univisión14 affiliate relocated to San José a few years ago, but they are still covering the Bay Area. In fact, they covered the large pro-Palestinian demonstration in San Francisco on the evening of 14 noviembre. That was good to see: both the large demonstration and that Univisión14 — the local affiliate — was covering it. And on 15 noviembre 2023, one of the highly regarded and respected news anchors at the Los Ángeles affiliate resigned unexpectedly. It is thought that he resigned because of the far-right takeover of the network.
Reading comments from viewers, no one is falling for this basura. They know what’s going on. Apparently the world’s bully/DJT’s nephew (Jared Kushner) bought the network — with dinero he made from the Saudis — or has ties to their parent company. Televisa in México owns the network and that’s why their legal name is TelevisaUnivisión. Much of Uni’s programming comes from Televisa.
As I’ve written before, other than Amy Goodman of DN!, no English language speaker at a microphone ever pronounces Univisión correctly. They try to make it an English language word — and don’t even do an accurate job of that! — even though it’s an español language network’s name and not an English word. Stupid people.
So when will the same thing — a far-right takeover — happen to Telemundo, which is owned by NBCUniversal? Quite a few people in the past have left Univisión and gone over to Telemundo, their competition.
I’m expecting most of the staff at Univisión to be replaced, especially with Noticiero Univisión where veteran journalist and highly regarded Jorge Ramos and Ilia Calderón work.
Univisión is certain to lose viewers because already viewers are complaining about the recent propaganda “interview” on the network with the Mob Boss (DJT) who was interviewed by someone not even from the network. It was a cozy “soft ball” interview and from what I read from viewers it was purely propaganda. (More on that below).
The network has also cancelled some or all Biden campaign ads they had planned in some markets. Some viewers are disgusted that the network which once told the truth about the hate that trump has for Latinos/Hispanos and for immigrants (documented and undocumented), that network is now serving as a propaganda and lies machine for the spreading of trump’s fascist agenda because of a financial connection to the parent company and pressure from the World’s Bully and Mob Boss. I wasn’t able to read much of the article about this online (and there’s only one that I saw) because it was behind a subscription wall.
The network was referred to as “left leaning” in the article I read. I’ve never thought of Univisión as “left leaning” per se, but rather more objective and Establishment. They’ve been “left leaning” on the topic of inmigración — and that’s a broad topic with many parts — and maybe on gay issues. Yet their telenovelas from Televisa en la Ciudad de México have consistently portrayed queers in a very outdated stereotypical feminine way. The network has been obedient to language of the Gay Agenda.
I do not know why so many people seem afraid and or terrified by this piece of basura who’s once again running for US president. They fall all over him and give him anything he wants. Even the US court system is terrified of him and anything they do that appears in opposition to him is purely a charade. Nothing is going to happen to him. Apparently many people never matured to a level to learn how to deal with a bully, and that’s all this immature, self-absorbed, self-entitled, big-headed piece of trash is. They are afraid to challenge him or question him on anything. I wouldn’t be, because I have no respect for him. I see him for what he is.
So where will this go from here?
Update: From what I’ve read since I wrote the above, the interview with trump at the network was conducted by Enrique Acevedo who is from the parent company Televisa. I didn’t know he had left Univisión where he was one of the news anchors. He did the 11.30pm newscast. So as usual, in the interview trump lied and said that México paid for the border wall and that Obama started the policy of separating women from their children at the border. Both of which are lies. Acevedo — serving as a doormat for trump — didn’t push back or correct any of the lies, from what I read. Then trump said that Televisa executives really like him. And that’s important? I didn’t know that Enrique was such a “Yes” man and ass-eater. He has sold himself out to a despicable human being. And nobody who has written about this seems to remember that Enrique was at Univisión. I didn’t know he had left since I’ve not watched the network in some time. He apparently resigned and moved to Televisa where he’s now a news anchor. He’s originally from México.
